BEST DEFENSIVE PETS IN GAG2
Lock down your plot against night raiders. Ranked from the GAG2 Calculator database — real values, honest reasoning.
Once your garden is worth raiding, a top-tier defender stops becoming a luxury and starts being a requirement. These pets punish or remove thieves mid-raid.
Ice Serpent20M value
The highest-value pet and premier defender — its freeze locks a thief mid-steal, the cornerstone of any anti-steal build.
Black Dragon1M value
A Super-rarity defender that burns intruders; pair it with an Ice Serpent for a freeze-and-burn lockdown few raiders survive.
Bear500K value
A Mythic bruiser that actively tackles, pins and throws raiders out — real active defense obtainable from the Epic Egg.
Bee1M value
The affordable defender: swarms and stings intruders, giving a developing garden real protection before you can afford Super-tier pets.
By the numbers — trade value compared
How to use this ranking.
Defence is the other half of GAG2's grow-versus-defend tension, and this list ranks pets by how reliably they stop a raid that is already in progress. A hard freeze beats a burn beats a physical throw beats a swarm, which is why the Ice Serpent — also the highest-value pet in the game — anchors the top: locking a thief in place is the most decisive interruption available. The rest of the order tracks how completely and how consistently each ability shuts a raider down.
The strongest setup layers effects rather than relying on one. Pair the Ice Serpent's freeze with the Black Dragon's burn for a lockdown that very few raiders survive, station both at your highest-value row rather than sending them wandering, and back them with fences and a Gnome so a thief has to run a gauntlet. If you are still building, the Bee is a genuine bridge defender — realistic at 4.5% from the Common Egg and 9% from the Epic Egg — that makes raiders think twice while you grind toward Super-tier pets.
No pet is an impenetrable wall; a determined, well-equipped thief can still get through, so defence is about raising the cost of a raid, not eliminating it. It also only starts to matter once your crops are worth stealing — do not sink Sheckles into a defensive build before you have anything to protect.
