Yes — if you go in with the right expectations.
Grow a Garden 2 is a fun, relaxing farming game with a real theft-and-defense twist that the original never had. But it launched with a tight economy, rare weather and a heavy pay-to-win pull, and the community is vocal about it. If you expect a chill, snowballing idle game and you play smart (AFK farming, Daily Deals, stealing from bot farms), you will have a good time. If you expect to get rich fast for free, you will bounce off it.
Below is the honest breakdown — the same complaints you will see on Reddit, plus the other side of each one.
What the community keeps raising.
- Pay-to-win. Top seeds cost tens of millions; Dragon's Breath jumped from ~9M to 90M+. Many players feel pushed toward Robux or third-party sites.
- Scripters & dupers. Public servers are full of them — they can steal event seeds instantly and even remove you from your own garden.
- Rare weather. Mutations mostly come from weather, and weather can be 12–19 hours apart. "The only time I get mutations is AFK" is a common refrain.
- Tight economy. Without mutations you top out around 150k–200k/hour, which feels tiny next to seed prices.
- One mutation per crop. No stacking like GAG1, which lowers the ceiling and annoys veterans.
- You can play fully f2p by farming AFK, timing the Daily Deal (2.2×) and raiding bot farms — see the money guide.
- Defense pets and smart plot layout genuinely stop most raids; the theft system is beatable.
- Passive AFK farming turns rare weather from a chore into a nice surprise you wake up to.
- Weight scaling (value grows with weight squared) is a huge, f2p-friendly lever most players under-use.
- Single mutations make each crop's value easy to calculate and plan around.
What GAG2 actually does well.
- The steal-and-defend loop. Raiding other gardens and locking down your own is the freshest thing the sequel adds, and it creates a real risk/reward layer at night.
- Satisfying weight and mutation payoffs. A heavy, event-mutated crop selling for millions is a genuinely great moment.
- Deep pet and crop variety. Dozens of crops, a full pet roster with distinct roles, and a live update cadence add new content regularly.
- Low-pressure by default. You can treat it as a background idle game and still make progress.
GAG2 vs the original Grow a Garden.
The honest comparison: GAG1 has the mature economy, stacking mutations and years of events; GAG2 is newer, leaner and more PvP-focused. Veterans often call GAG2 a step back on depth, while newer players enjoy the fresh start and the stealing mechanic. Crucially, the two are separate games with separate saves, codes and economies — progress and codes do not carry over, so treat GAG2 on its own terms rather than expecting GAG1's late-game riches.
Who should play it.
- You like relaxing, idle-friendly farming games
- You enjoy a bit of PvP risk (stealing and defending)
- You are happy to play the long, mostly-AFK game
- You want a fresh economy to grow into from scratch
- You expect fast, free riches
- Scripters in public servers will ruin it for you
- You loved GAG1's stacking mutations and events
- You will be tempted to spend on P2W seeds
If you are in, start with the beginner guide and the money guide — going in with a plan is the difference between "this is fun" and "this is a grind".
